As Mr. Fleece and I mark another anniversary, I've been thinking about the "for better or worse" part of our vows. We certainly have our "for betters," -- laughs, comforts, vacations, financial stability, adventures, career success, fun and meaningful sex, date nights, long talks, road trips, etc. And although not shouted from the rooftops, we have our "for worse" moments too. Sometimes these come from external factors like work stress, life disappointments, or family frustrations. Other times, it's actually the concoction of our own personalities, default reactions, and divergent perspectives mixing together that make for some interesting ingredients. Combine with our critical words, withdrawing natures, and emotional disparities, and we can easily craft a bitter cocktail!
But that's part of the wonder and gravity of marriage. On July 14, 2012, I declared my unwavering choice of Mr. Fleece, the person I want to be with for all of the unpredictable things and whose strengths far outnumber his shortcomings or blind spots. For all the "for better or worse" that has happened and all the "for better or worse" that lies ahead, I want him on my team, by my side, and at my back when it goes down.
There's bound to be plenty as we continue to navigate a crazy real estate market during a global pandemic and bump our family count up to five(!).
Loving you through the muck and the magic,
-SJW
