September was good to me. Discovered some pretty fun things.
Watching
I saw The Oh Hellos in concert with opener Joseph at the Neptune Theater. With nine people on stage, the Oh Hellos bring an exciting energy to the stage! I love the heartfelt lyrics & their ability to jump from upbeat foot-stomping madness to soul-searching seriousness. Their new album is inspired by some of C. S. Lewis's writing : )
Three sisters make up the band Joseph & their airy harmony with piano/guitar based music defines my favorite genre.
Eating
It's always nice to find new inexpensive lunch spots. My coworkers suggested I try Vostok, a restaurant in Capitol Hill known for their Russian dumplings. Try the garlic ones!
Want custom flavored ice cream? Handmade in Seattle, Sweet Lo's is the perfect creamy concoction. At my friend's bachelorette party, I tried lemon bar, coffee toffee, & raspberry. Find her product at Home Remedy or email her directly if you'd like to place a special order: laurietiff@gmail.com.
Reading
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is magical & full of vivid imagery. The story centers on a wandering Night Circus that appears unannounced in fields. The eclectic entertainers & black & white decor are not the only unique aspects. Beneath it all, there is a dual between two magicians that may or may not fall in love. If you enjoyed Harry Potter, you'll definitely love this one!
Listening
My first time listening to a book on tape (as an adult), The Opposite of Loneliness read by Emily Woo Zeller is a good one. The author Marina Keegan graduated from Yale 2012 & died five days later - leaving behind essays & stories that were published in "The Opposite of Loneliness." Her writing is rich & insightful, her diction spot on.
I'm sure October will bring equally fun things - including a 26th birthday!
