December was marked by cold days and sick kiddos. Thankfully that cleared before our wonderful trip to Texas! We got back into town, enjoyed a fun New Year's Eve party, then rang in 2023 with the stomach bug. There's been ample laundry this month and I've never been so grateful to own a washer and dryer. Unfortunately Ebony has been the number one contributor as she's not doing so well and might be on a drawn out decline. Oscillating between the high highs and low lows of life and parenting makes it hard to feel like my head's on straight! After hosting family for a long weekend, we are settling back into rhythms and re-organizing our house.
Highlights:
- EDW's first time sledding
- Lots of basement time playing "three billy goats gruff" and "eating cookies"
- Transitioning to booster seats and all sitting around the same kitchen table
- Driving to look at Christmas lights followed by our first time eating out at a restaurant just the 5 of us
- Celebrating New Year's Eve with an early countdown at 7:00pm :)
- Trying a couple nights of all three children in the same room overnight
- Reverting back to separate rooms(!) and transitioning twins into toddler beds
- Trip to Downtown Seattle Public Library and The Pacific Science Center
- Fancy Day at school
- Building NLW's first boxed LEGO set -- a garbage truck
Watching | I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter
I made my way back to the theater for Seattle Rep's opening night of this book-turned-play performance. I went in blind and though the show was wonderful -- my favorte combo of funny and poignant. My complimentary second row seats didn't hurt! The lead is truly phenomenal.
Eating | Café Campagne
This cafe has been on my bucket list for 10 years and it was such a treat to celebrate my friend's birthday over brunch. The interior was surprisingly bigger than I pictured, but most importatly, the quiche was delicious and the company superb!
Reading | Hurricane Girl
It's rare that I mention a book I didn't enjoy -- and this one takes the cake. I really did not like it! I felt strung along the entire time with a main character I didn't care for amidst a strange and dark plot. Even so, I finished it in just a couple sittings and am looking forward to discussing with my West Seattle Book Club. I give the author credit for her craft and making the reader feel uncomfortable -- I'm hoping I appreciate the themes or purpose of the book more after chatting with others.
Listening | Encanto Soundtrack
I finally hopped on the Encanto train! Lin-Manuel Miranda and his team are unstoppable. Surface Pressure was the first song to win me over but I really love the ballad, Dos Oruguitas. Oof what a tearjerker!
