That Lone Star State | Texas Fun

Earlier this summer I went back to my beloved childhood state of Texas! Almost all of my summers growing up were spent under the hot Texas sun & therefore filled with ice cream, popsicles, watermelon & pools : ) I was able to relive those days while celebrating the marriages of two dear friends, spending time with my parents in ATX & reconnecting with college comrades. Here are some of the highlights:

WATCHING

Our friends recently hosted a night to watch the ReMoved documentaries about foster care. It was an awesome night and the documentary does a great job of portraying this topic from the child's perspective. They are fostering two young boys & after the movie, answered questions for those that were interested.Warning: watch with kleenex. 

EATING

I've tried a few recipes from the famous Pioneer Woman. Her Tomato Tart & Mexican "Flatbread" Pizza are really tasty!

READING

I just finished reading "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr. 'Twas difficult to put down - I really really enjoyed it! Up next is "The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins & "I'll Give you the Sun" by Jandy Nelson. 

LISTENING

Hozier. 

"Work Song" and "Jackie and Wilson" are two of my favorites. 

Headed to the Lone Star State for a week & a half to celebrate a couple marriages, see my family, connect with college friends, explore the latest in Austin, & relax!

Confessions of a 25 year old

Sometimes I bring applesauce to a dinner party...because I want to eat it myself.

I like watching golf on TV. 

I don't really know pop culture. 

I look at job openings & house postings just for fun. 

Sometimes I use Febreeze as perfume.

I prefer water to wine & beer & coffee. 

I think about children's names often. Right now the leaders are Ramona Louise & Calvin Thomas.

Meal planning makes me anxious. 

I almost always pack my bags the night before. 

I enjoyed high school but have forgotten a lot of what I was taught.

I told Mr. Fleece we should buy Ebony more nylon bones.....They're called nylabones.

I'm an introvert.

I don't know the Star Wars story (as in, I haven't really seen the movies).

I wish Mr. Fleece & I had written our own vows for our wedding ceremony.

Seattle feels like home.

Road Trip Recap: Wyoming + Idaho

Mr. Fleece & I recently took a little Northwest road trip. I learned that Montana is gorgeous, Yellowstone is fascinating, farming is hard, there are Basque people in Boise & I am married to a truly wonderful man. 

Day 1

13 hour drive

WATCHING

Next Tuesday I'll be watching The Phantom of the Opera. I've wanted to see this musical since middle school and am finally making it happen. I love the music & themes & am most excited to see the Masquerade scene : ) 

EATING

My new favorite Happy Hour spot is El Borracho. It's right across from my office & has excellent margaritas + chips & salsa 

I recommend the Chorizo con Papas burrito!

READING

Boys in the Boat  by Daniel James Brown 

It's my next book club book & I pick it up from the Library tomorrow : ) 

LISTENING

My dear friend Lainey Wright's new album "'Til We Go Home" is a gem. She gets better & better with each album she produces!

I really love the songs "What Love Does" & "Olive Tree" & "No Surprise"  

Life is good.
